Valentine’s Day 2027 in Puerto Vallarta: sunsets, whales and a table for two

Puerto Vallarta has an advantage for a romantic getaway: almost everything lovely is close by. A sunset on the Malecón, a dinner overlooking the bay, a beach you can only reach by boat and, in February, humpback whales in full season. Love and Friendship Day (Mexico’s Valentine’s Day) in 2027 falls on Sunday, February 14. This guide is for couples, or for two people who already know each other and travel by mutual agreement, and for anyone who lives here and wants to plan a good dinner; it is not a first-date plan. It uses named, dated sources and the places we have already reviewed. Confirm everything close to the date.

In short

  • Valentine’s Day 2027 is Sunday, February 14. Mexico Travel & Leisure (April 27, 2026) recommends booking sunset dinners, hotels, boat trips and spas well ahead, and suggests dining on the 13th or 15th if you want less pressure.
  • February is high season and the humpback whale peak in Banderas Bay; boat trips fill up.
  • Beware of fake bookings that ask for a deposit by transfer and of supposed flower deliveries that ask for payment: confirm through official channels.
  • The State Department has Jalisco at Level 3 (advisory of September 6, 2024; consulted October 27, 2026), with Puerto Vallarta among the tourist areas: confirm the current advisory.

01When to book: Sunday the 14th and the weekend around it

In 2027 February 14 falls on a Sunday, so the weekend runs from Friday 12 to Monday 15. Mexico Travel & Leisure (April 27, 2026) calls Love and Friendship Day a date of full restaurants and couples, although friends and families celebrate it too, and notes that February is high season in Puerto Vallarta: the best rooms go first. Vallarta Adventures (February 24, 2026), a tour operator that sells some of the experiences it mentions, advises booking as soon as dates are confirmed and contacting restaurants at the same time as flights and the hotel.

  • Book the hard things first. The hotel in the Romantic Zone or Downtown, the sunset dinner and, if you like, the boat trip.
  • If you can choose, celebrating on Saturday 13 or Monday 15 eases the pressure on tables and boats, according to Mexico Travel & Leisure.
  • Ask for each hotel’s cancellation and special-date conditions in writing; they set them and they change.

February weather, according to the same source: highs in the high 20s °C (low 80s °F), pleasant evenings that can feel cool by the sea, very infrequent rain and water warm enough to swim and go out on a boat. It is the humpback whale peak in the bay at that time, with the second half of the month easier to plan. Choose a responsible operator that keeps its distance from the whales and check the forecast a few days ahead.

If the 14th is full, the 13th or the 15th are good dates too.

02Where to stay: Romantic Zone, Conchas Chinas or Nayarit

Each area changes the weekend. This is a summary of our guides to romantic hotels and discreet hotels in Puerto Vallarta, where the sources are.

  • Romantic Zone and Downtown. For dining, strolling the Malecón and walking back. Casa Kimberly (nine suites, adults-only) and Hacienda San Ángel (twelve suites, with a rooftop restaurant) hold one Michelin Key in the Michelin Guide Mexico selection.
  • Conchas Chinas and the south. More privacy and views, at the cost of relying on taxis. Quinta María Cortez has 22 rooms and suites and an adults-only rooftop pool; it has many levels and no elevator.
  • Adults-only. Casa Velas, in Marina Vallarta, accepts only guests over 18; Hotel Mousai presents itself as an adults-only all-inclusive resort south of the city.
  • Punta de Mita and Sayulita. More beach than city, 50 to 60 and 40 to 50 minutes from the airport respectively, according to Mexico Travel & Leisure.

Ask about the exact age and visitor rules. It is a trip that two people who already know each other choose together: each should be able to leave whenever they want, with their own booking and their own transport.

03A three-night plan, Friday to Monday

One way to organize the weekend without filling it with schedules; adjust it to the weather and the reservations.

  • Friday 12: arrival and the Malecón. Vallarta Adventures suggests getting to the Los Arcos amphitheater 30 to 45 minutes before sunset and finishing with a walk along the Los Muertos pier when it lights up. At the airport, Mexico Travel and Leisure (April 19, 2026) says Uber cannot be requested from the terminal and official taxis are paid in advance at a booth.
  • Saturday 13: whales or a boat-access beach day. In the morning, humpback whale watching, or a beach day by boat: Las Caletas can only be reached by boat, and Yelapa is about 45 minutes south, by panga from the Los Muertos pier or from Boca de Tomatlán. Confirm times and sea conditions the same day.
  • Sunday 14: unhurried, with one good reservation. A long breakfast in the Romantic Zone, a free afternoon, sunset on the water or on a terrace, and dinner. The options are below.
  • Monday 15: a quiet departure. Have the airport transfer sorted: from Downtown allow 15 to 25 minutes, more with traffic.

If you only have two nights, prioritize Saturday’s or Sunday’s sunset and the dinner on the 14th, and leave the rest unscheduled.

04Dinner, sunset and little gestures: what to book and what to give

The ideas below come from the Puerto Vallarta services guide, which draws on a tour operator’s blog and other dated sources. They are examples, not a neutral or paid selection; confirm they are still open and check their hours.

  • Dinner with a view. La Cappella (Italian-Mexican cooking on a patio overlooking the cathedral and the bay; formal dress code), Café des Artistes (French-Mexican, in a garden in the historic center), Le Kliff (a sunset terrace on a cliff) and Mar y Vino (tables facing the Malecón).
  • More casual. The Iguana, a colonial patio in the old town with live music.
  • By boat. For Valentine’s Day Vallarta Adventures (February 24, 2026) offered a party at the Majahuitas cove, reachable only by sea, a sunset sailboat and private charters. It is a commercial offer from an operator and may change or not be repeated: confirm on its site. The Rhythms of the Night dinner, at Las Caletas, is also reached by boat and booked well ahead.

For flowers, we could not find a reliable, current list of florists that deliver to hotels in Puerto Vallarta, so we name none. Ask the hotel concierge to arrange flowers or a toast at the table, confirm the name, table or room and time in writing, and pay only through the hotel’s own channels. For a beach dinner, coordinate the gesture with the restaurant rather than sending a third party without warning. If you do not know the person well yet, do not send anything to their hotel or home: hand it over in person. More ideas in the gift guide.

05Booking and flower scams, and basic safety

High-demand dates attract people who want to take advantage. These signs come up again and again and are worth taking seriously:

  • Fake bookings. A hotel, villa or boat trip at a very good discount that asks for a deposit by transfer, in cash or with gift cards. Book through the official site or by calling the number listed there.
  • Fake flower deliveries. Messages saying an arrangement is waiting and asking for a payment or a “shipping fee”, or florist ads that disappear after payment. If you were not expecting a delivery, do not pay.
  • Fake help at the airport. Mexico Travel and Leisure (April 19, 2026) warns of people in vests who offer transport at the terminal and sometimes sell inflated tickets; its advice is to go to the official booth.

There is more in the guide to deposits and fake bookings. In the city, Vallarta Adventures (July 17, 2026) rates the Romantic Zone as comfortable with the normal precautions of any city, and advises carrying only what you need, using well-lit streets and taking official taxis or apps to get back to the hills at night. For emergencies, 911 or, for bilingual tourist assistance, 078, according to that source.

The U.S. State Department places Jalisco at Level 3 for crime and kidnapping (advisory of September 6, 2024; consulted October 27, 2026); Puerto Vallarta appears among the tourist areas and the advisory imposes no other restrictions on its personnel in the state. Check travel.state.gov before you travel and tell someone you trust where you will be. If anything about the plan or the person makes you doubt, go over the warning signs.

06If you are still getting to know each other: a no-pressure alternative

If you have only been on a few dates, February 14 does not have to be a trip or a big-production dinner. A lunch by the sea, a daytime walk along the Malecón or a coffee in the Romantic Zone lets you find out whether there is a connection without hotels involved; and if Sunday’s dinner is full, Saturday or Monday work just as well. A getaway of several days is decided later, when both of you want it. To prepare for it, see the first date guide.

If you live alone and would like to meet someone discreetly, you do not have to wait for a special date. Premium Dating Mexico is a private introduction service mediated by the administrator: it is free for women, nobody pays for a meeting, identities are verified and photos are protected. Find out more on the home page.

Venues, hours, programs and notices change: confirm everything with each hotel, restaurant or organizer and with official sources before you go. We have no relationship with any of the places mentioned, and the listings are not paid.
