Romantic weekend in Aguascalientes: itinerary and hotels by area

Aguascalientes is a compact getaway: the center is walkable, there are small museums, a hot spring and a Wine Route near the city. This guide proposes a Friday-to-Sunday itinerary and compares hotels by area, using details from travel guides. Prices change and we do not include them; the hotel sources are from 2024 or undated, so confirm services, rooms and cancellation directly with each hotel before booking.

In short

  • The center has Plaza de la Patria, the Cathedral and several museums within a short distance; the Posada is about six blocks from the square.
  • Casa del Jardín (11 rooms) is the boutique option downtown; Quinta Real and the Marriott sit outside the historic core, according to a 2024 guide.
  • The 2026 Feria Nacional de San Marcos ran 18 April to 10 May and UnoTV expected more than 2 million visitors; if you travel during fair dates, book early.
  • The Wine Route has 16 vineyards and wineries according to the state tourism department in 2023; if you drink wine, do not drive.

01A weekend for two

This itinerary uses places from travel guides of 2023 and 2024. Hours change; confirm before you go.

  • Friday evening. Check in, a walk through Plaza de la Patria and the Jardín de San Marcos, and an early dinner with a reservation. See ideas in restaurants and bars.
  • Saturday morning. The José Guadalupe Posada Museum, in the Barrio El Encino, or the Museo de Aguascalientes and Museo Espacio. A light lunch and a rest.
  • Saturday afternoon. Baños Termales de Ojocaliente or a visit to the Wine Route, with organized transport. A quiet dinner.
  • Sunday. An unhurried breakfast, one last walk through the center and departure.

If you want a shorter plan, half the itinerary, a day downtown plus a visit to the hot spring, already works as a two-day getaway.

A good weekend in a compact city fits in three meals, two walks and one escape.

02Where to stay: downtown or outside the historic core

Location shapes how the weekend will feel. A 2024 hotel guide distinguishes a few options.

  • Downtown. Casa del Jardín and Quality Inn appear near the square or within walking distance of attractions. This is best if you want to walk to museums and restaurants.
  • A historic hotel somewhat closer in. The Grand Alameda, from 1899, appears as an alternative with character, although the guide places it near sports facilities and not as part of the historic center.
  • Outside the historic core. Quinta Real, on the outskirts past the ring road according to the guide, and the Marriott, in a suburban area near upscale restaurants, bars and a mall. A car ride is useful.

If you want to see the center on foot, stay downtown; if you prefer a full-service hotel with a pool and parking, the outskirts options are more comfortable with a car.

03Hotels with confirmed details

These details come from the Hotel-Scoop guide (29 September 2024), Sailingstone Travel (updated 26 September 2024) and a The Hotel Guru listing (undated). The list is not exhaustive or paid. In Michelin’s article of 22 October 2026 on Key hotels in Mexico, no Aguascalientes hotel appears.

  • Boutique Hotel Casa del Jardín. Presented as Aguascalientes’s first boutique hotel, with 11 individually styled rooms and a rooftop view, across from a city park. Limited services.
  • Hotel Grand Alameda. Built in 1899, with 48 rooms, a courtyard restaurant under a skylight, a bar and a pool. The guide warns that the gym is dated; confirm the current state.
  • Quinta Real Aguascalientes. The Hotel Guru lists it with 85 rooms, antique furnishings, a pool, a garden and Los Murales Bar, and had not inspected it. The 2024 guide describes it as a full-service hotel with ample parking.
  • Marriott Aguascalientes. A high-rise in a suburban area, with a large pool and a deck with fire pits, according to the 2024 guide.
  • Fiesta Americana Aguascalientes. Sailingstone Travel calls it an upscale, well-rated option.

04How to book well

  • Check whether it overlaps with the San Marcos Fair. The 2026 edition ran 18 April to 10 May, according to UnoTV (12 February 2026), which expected more than 2 million visitors. We found no official dates for the next edition: confirm them before fixing your trip.
  • Ask for free cancellation when possible, especially if you depend on flights or a work schedule.
  • Confirm the exact location. “Downtown” can mean walking or taking a taxi: check the distance to Plaza de la Patria.
  • Ask about parking and transfers if you will go to the Wine Route or the hot spring.

There is no reliable hotel occupancy figure: we do not claim that hotels are full or empty.

05A half-day escape: hot springs or vineyards

  • Baños Termales de Ojocaliente. A 2023 guide describes it with private bathing rooms and first-come access, no reservation on that visit. The author was not satisfied: the water felt lukewarm. Confirm before you go.
  • Wine Route. Since 2023 the state tourism department lists 16 vineyards and wineries with guided tours, among them Hacienda de Letras, Casa Leal and Santa Elena, plus cheese makers and the Hacienda San Blas. Ask each place whether it needs an appointment.

If the plan includes wine, the person driving should not drink, or arrange transport. For a longer getaway, see our guide to romantic hotels in Guanajuato.

06If you would rather have someone introduce you

Not every getaway starts as a couple. If you travel alone or want to meet someone to share a weekend like this, a mediated introduction, with both sides’ consent, can save the first step.

Premium Dating Mexico is a private introduction service mediated by the administrator: it is free for women, nobody pays for a meeting, identities are verified and photos are protected. If you prefer someone to arrange it with discretion and verified identities, start on the home page.

Venues change, so confirm hours, reservations and policies with each hotel before you go. We have no relationship with any of the places mentioned, and the listings are not paid. The information comes from travel guides and media from 2023 to 2026, including UnoTV, Tus Buenas Noticias, Líder Empresarial and the U.S. State Department.
