November long weekend: romantic escapes from Monterrey

01The 2026 long weekend and what to expect

The Federal Labor Law sets the third Monday of November as the mandatory rest day for 20 November (Uno TV, 20 September 2026). In 2026 it is Monday 16, so the long weekend runs from Saturday 14 to Monday 16 (N+). Buen Fin runs Friday 13 to Tuesday 17, according to Uno TV.

• More movement. For the 2025 long weekend, Sectur projected hotel occupancy above 65% in destinations such as Monterrey (Publimetro, 6 November 2025): a projection, not a final figure, but a sign that it pays to book early.
• Shopping and travel. Buen Fin draws shoppers to malls; if you plan to leave the city, go early and avoid the busiest traffic.
• Promotions. Last year Sectur and Profeco launched “La Gran Espada: El Buen Fin del Turismo”. Check whether something similar runs this year and book only through official channels.

Because the rule is “the third Monday”, the guide works every year: only the dates change.

02Before you suggest the plan

In Monterrey clarity is appreciated: proposing a day, a time and a place works better than leaving it open. With a getaway, that means talking early about what each of you wants.

• Agree together. How many nights, which room, how to get there and who pays for what. Separate rooms are a valid option.
• A day outing first. Santiago can be done in an afternoon; it is a lighter test than sleeping away.
• Freedom to leave. Her being able to head home whenever she wants, with her own transport if she prefers, is part of trust.
• Discretion. Do not post photos of her or the place without her permission.

03Under two hours: Santiago and Laguna de Sánchez

This is the most practical option for three days, because you arrive quickly and can spend the time resting.

• Santiago, Nuevo León. A magical town about 30 km south of Monterrey, 30 to 40 minutes along the Carretera Nacional. It has a historic square with cobbled streets, the Cola de Caballo waterfall (about 25 metres) inside Cumbres de Monterrey National Park and a viewpoint over La Boca dam.
• Hotel Rincón de Santiago. About 30 minutes from central Monterrey, facing La Boca dam: 80 suites and 15 villas, some with a private pool; bonfires, stargazing nights and walks toward Cola de Caballo. The restaurant Los Agapantos and the Bocabar are on site.
• Laguna de Sánchez. About two hours from Monterrey, near Santiago, according to Monterrey Secreto, with walks through sunflower fields. Sunflowers are seasonal: confirm what there is to see in November before you go.

04With more time: Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila

If you leave early on Saturday, Parras suits those who enjoy wine and desert scenery. It is a longer drive: about 227 km from Monterrey, according to Vámonos a México, so allow half a day on the road and confirm the time in your maps app.

• Casa Madero. Founded in 1597, according to the same source, about 8 km from the town; it has a museum with old winemaking equipment. Confirm hours and whether you need a reservation.
• Estanque de la Luz. Described as a spa with warm waters fed by springs from the sierra.
• Weather. From December to February, 11 to 14 °C, according to the same page: bring a jacket for the evening.

That information dates from 2022, so confirm hours, reservations and the current state of the places. Parras also hosts the Gran Vendimia, whose 2026 edition was in July.

05Without leaving Monterrey: San Pedro, the centre and Fundidora

A long weekend in town can be a pause too: you skip the highway traffic and the hotel becomes the plan.

• San Pedro Garza García. Habita MTY, with a rooftop bar and two infinity pools; JW Marriott Monterrey, with the restaurant Orfebre and a spa; and The Westin Monterrey Valle, with the open-air restaurant Azotea Deck 11. The San Pedro guide helps plan the evening.
• Financial district. Live Aqua Urban Resort, in Loma Larga, with the restaurant Azur and the Nyte bar.
• Centre. Gran Hotel Ancira and Quinta Real, with squares and museums nearby.
• Fundidora Park and Paseo Santa Lucía. A calm place to walk by day and talk without rushing.

06A realistic Saturday-to-Monday rhythm and how to book

• Saturday. Leave early, have lunch without rushing and keep the afternoon free. Book dinner for the evening.
• Sunday. The main plan: the waterfall, the park or a spa. Book anything with limited places in advance.
• Monday. Leave after breakfast and avoid the afternoon return. If you drive, rest.
• Bookings. Early, with flexible cancellation and through official channels; ask about parking, ID, visitors and whether the hotel is adults-only.
