Monterrey is a northern industrial city with a strong business culture, and people there tend to value punctuality and clear plans. The same applies to a first date: pick the place in advance, book it and let her know the address and time with a day of margin. • Atmosphere before fame. A first date benefits from soft lighting, attentive service and a room where conversation is possible.

• Casa Bellota. Spanish-inspired, tapas-style small plates meant to be shared, in a polished modern room with warm lighting and a lively dining room. It is described as a strong date-night choice: elegant but conversational. Sharing plates is an easy way to break the ice.
• Hanaichi. Japanese cuisine (sushi, sashimi, ramen, tempura and yakitori) in a minimalist, elegant room with soft lighting, described as perfect for a romantic dinner.

If you want a quieter corner, ask when you book. A shared-plates menu also lets you adapt to what she likes without making a big decision at the table.

03Terrace, views and northern classics

For a plan with more character, these three offer a view, a modern steakhouse or the flavors of the north.

• Colmillo Arboleda. Reimagined Mexican cuisine with creative cocktails, in an industrial-chic space with a terrace and city views. It is suitable for an intimate meal with a partner. In the heat of a Monterrey summer, ask about the best time and table for the terrace.
• Casa Prime. A premium steakhouse with aged cuts, plus seafood and pastas, in a sleek, modern room with large windows. It is described as ideal for a romantic dinner and also for business meetings and celebrations.
• Los Hidalgos. A northern Mexican steakhouse with grilled cuts, cabrito and frijoles charros, in a rustic room with wood accents and soft lighting; a cozy dinner for two. Northern cooking is part of the city’s identity, so it is also a good way to share something local.

Carne asada, cabrito and machacado are northern classics. If she is not a meat eater, ask her beforehand rather than assuming; a steakhouse is a bad surprise for some people.

Both are special-occasion plans rather than a first date: a long experience and the pressure of the moment can overshadow the conversation. Save them for when there is more trust, book well ahead and ask about the format when you reserve.

05Daytime, groups and lively evenings

Not every good restaurant is a good first-date restaurant. Some suit a light first meeting; others are better for a group or a celebration.

• Santé. Healthy, vegetarian and vegan options in a bright, calm setting. It is a good option for a daytime coffee or a light lunch as a first meeting.
• 9 Fuegos. Argentine parrilla with wood-fired meats, empanadas and Argentine wines, warm and rustic. It is better for refined dinners with friends or family than as a romantic pick.
• Fogo de Chão Monterrey. Brazilian rodízio with tableside-carved meats, in an elegant setting. It suits special occasions and business dinners, but it is not an intimate or first-date choice.
• Cantina La No. 20. Modern Mexican cuisine with a focus on mezcal and tequila; festive, colorful and with live music. It is lively, so not the place for a quiet first conversation.

A daytime meeting is the lightest way to start: it is shorter, has a natural end and is easy for her to accept. You can move to dinner on a second date.

06Booking, payment and etiquette

A few habits make the evening smoother and show that you thought about it.

• Book ahead, especially from Thursday to Saturday, and confirm the day before by WhatsApp, which is the norm for follow-up.
• Be punctual. Arrive a few minutes early and, if you are running late, say so.
• Offer to host, without expectation. Caballerosidad is valued in Mexico, so “I would like to invite you” is a natural gesture. If she prefers to split the bill, accept gracefully.
