• Talk about the practical side. What kind of room, how many nights, how to get there and who pays for what, taking nothing for granted.
• Day before night. A one-day plan is a lighter test than a night away.

02From Monterrey

• Santiago, Nuevo León. A pueblo mágico about 30 km south of Monterrey, 30 or 40 minutes along the Carretera Nacional. A historic square with cobblestone streets, the Cola de Caballo waterfall (about 25 meters) inside the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park and a viewpoint over the La Boca dam.
• Hotel Rincón de Santiago. About 30 minutes from the center, among the mountains and facing the La Boca dam, with 80 suites and 15 villas, some with a private pool, fire pits and starry nights.
• Laguna de Sánchez. About two hours from Monterrey, near Santiago, a walk among sunflower fields, according to Monterrey Secreto.

03From Guadalajara

• Chapala. About 35 minutes by car: walks along the malecón at sunset, local food and colorful streets.
• Tequila. A pueblo mágico with the National Tequila Museum and the Cascada de los Azules. Casa Salles is a 25-room boutique hotel next to a distillery, an hour from Guadalajara, with tours and tastings; Solar de las Ánimas, according to Latin Flyer, has a rooftop sky bar with a jacuzzi.
• Tlaquepaque. Part of the metropolitan area: galleries, ceramics, the El Parián market and the Jardín Hidalgo.
• San Cristóbal, Jalisco. The boutique hotel Defranca, a seventeenth-century hacienda on the edge of a ravine, with a spa and access to the tequila route, according to Food & Pleasure.
• Mazamitla. A pueblo mágico with cabins in the forest and nature activities.

04How to book with good judgment

• Ahead of time for long weekends, special dates and Valentine’s Day.
• Confirm each hotel’s policies: cancellation, ID and visitors.
• Look after the journey. If you drive, rest and set out in daylight; if not, ask about transfers.
• Discretion. Do not post photos of her or of the place without her permission.
