Romantic hotels in Guadalajara: where to spend a special night

Guadalajara has a collection of hotels with real character, from nineteenth-century mansions to design boutiques. This guide brings together the ones specialist guides highlight for their atmosphere, by area: Lafayette and Chapultepec, the Centro Histórico, Tlaquepaque and one option with a singular history. It is written for adults who already know each other or who have a clear, agreed plan.

In short

  • A hotel is not a first plan: to get to know each other, start with a coffee, a dinner or a drink; the room comes later and always by mutual agreement.
  • Lafayette and Chapultepec are the design-boutique area, with restaurants and bars within walking distance; the Centro offers historic mansions; Tlaquepaque, calm and craftsmanship.
  • Quinta Real has rooms in the former boxes of a bullring, one of the most singular stays in the country, according to a hotel guide.
  • No Guadalajara hotel appears in the Michelin Keys lists we consulted; that says nothing about their quality.

01When a hotel makes sense

For a first date, the best choice is a public place that is easy to leave. See our guide to meeting people in Guadalajara and the restaurants for a first date. A hotel with a room is for a celebration, a getaway or a visit, always agreed and without pressure.

  • With trust. An anniversary or a weekend that you both want.
  • With a visitor from out of town. If someone arrives from another city, the hotel is the natural place for a dinner or a brunch.
  • With respect. She can say no or suggest another plan.

Tapatío hospitality is best enjoyed without hurry.

02Lafayette and Chapultepec: design boutiques

A tree-lined, walkable area with restaurants and bars a few steps away. See also our guide to Providencia and Andares to plan the evening.

  • Hotel Demetria. A boutique hotel with minimalist design and original artwork, with an art and photography bookshop and, according to several guides, a rooftop terrace. Its intimate scale makes it popular with couples.
  • Casa Fayette. An early twentieth-century house joined to a new building, with a bar and a lively atmosphere; some guides mention a rooftop terrace.
  • Casa Chapultepec. A simple guesthouse on the lively Chapultepec street.

Guides do not agree on every service at these hotels (for example, the rooftop or the number of rooms), so confirm with the hotel whatever matters to you.

03Centro Histórico: mansions and theatre

The Centro has old façades, plazas and the cathedral. It is the ideal area for anyone who wants to combine the hotel with the theatre or a stroll.

  • Hotel de Mendoza. A classic hotel opposite the Teatro Degollado, useful if the plan includes a performance.
  • Hotel Morales. A nineteenth-century building with an arcaded courtyard and a glass-roofed atrium; the rooms facing the courtyard are quieter.
  • NH Collection Guadalajara Centro Histórico. Opened in 2016, with a rooftop restaurant overlooking the cathedral and the government palace.
  • Casa Pedro Loza. An 1848 mansion with original tiles, eight uniquely decorated rooms and a sky lounge overlooking the city’s rooftops.

The Centro is very lively by day and quieter at night; ask the hotel about the best way to get there and back.

04A singular stay: Quinta Real

  • Quinta Real (Colonia Arcos). Its rooms occupy the former boxes of a bullring converted into a hotel; a guide to the city’s hotels describes it as one of the most unusual stays in Mexico.

It is a plan for a special occasion, with a history that makes for good conversation.

05Tlaquepaque: calm and craftsmanship

For anyone looking for a quiet weekend, Tlaquepaque combines pedestrian streets, galleries and ceramics.

  • La Villa del Ensueño. A colonial house in the pedestrian zone, with a village atmosphere and quiet.
  • Casa del Retiro. A small, very peaceful guesthouse, designed for a slow stay.

Combine the visit with a dinner in Guadalajara: Alcalde, which holds one Michelin Star in the 2026 Michelin Guide, appears in our restaurant guide.

06How to book with good judgment

  • Book ahead for weekends and special dates.
  • Ask about the policies on visitors, identification and opening hours of the common areas.
  • Ask for a quiet room, especially in the Centro and near bars.
  • Her freedom. Her being able to arrive and leave whenever she wants is part of a good night.
  • Discretion. Don’t post photos of the place or of her without her permission.
