Using AI for your dating profile and messages: what works, what doesn't and how to stay authentic

More and more people use artificial intelligence to write their bio, choose photos or think about what to reply. According to Tinder, cited by OneDigital on 15 December 2025, 76% of young single people who use the app use AI in some way; in Mexico, the study "El amor en los Tiempos de las Telecom 2026", reported by Infobae on 13 February 2026, found much lower use of external tools. This guide does not tell you whether you should use it: it helps you decide when it adds value, when it pulls you away from who you are and how to protect your privacy and other people's. And because AI is also on the other side, it explains how to tell whether you are chatting with a bot.

In short

  • AI is useful for organizing ideas, correcting, translating, planning a date or rehearsing a difficult message; it is bad at speaking for you or pretending you are something you are not.
  • The figures are not comparable: Tinder refers to people aged 18 to 25 in four countries; the Mexican CIU study refers to the 2.9% who use AI in their conversations or profiles.
  • Use AI as a draft you review, not as a voice that replaces you: sooner or later the first date reveals who wrote the messages.
  • Do not paste another person's private data into an AI tool, check what your tool stores and be wary of anyone who answers too perfectly, too fast and without details.

01How many people use AI for dating (and why the numbers differ)

The available data seem to contradict each other, but they answer different questions about different populations and should be read carefully.

  • Tinder (people aged 18 to 25, four countries). According to Tinder's Year in Swipe 2025 report, cited by OneDigital on 15 December 2025, 76% of young single users use AI in the app: 39% for date ideas, 28% for choosing photos and 28% for improving the bio. The survey behind Tinder's trends polled 4,000 people aged 18 to 25 who actively go out in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, according to the Uruguayan newspaper Búsqueda (6 January 2026), so it does not represent Mexico.
  • Mexico (dating app users). According to the study by The Competitive Intelligence Unit reported by Infobae and EFE on 13 February 2026, 2.9% use AI tools to improve conversations or profiles, and 31.1% use features built into the apps, such as best-photo selection, match boosting or fake-profile detection.

A reasonable reading is that AI is already present in dating, mostly inside the apps themselves and among people aged 18 to 25, and that deliberate use outside the apps is still a minority in Mexico. It is not a race: what matters is that what you write, with or without help, represents you.

On the same topic, Expansión (13 February 2026) quoted a user who said she optimized her profile "as if it were LinkedIn": a good description of the pressure to present yourself as perfect. AI can ease that pressure or increase it, depending on how you use it.

02Uses that help

These are uses where AI adds value without taking your voice away.

  • Organizing ideas for your bio. Tell the AI what you like, what you are looking for and what you are like, and ask for three different drafts. Pick one, remove what does not sound like you and change it with your own words.
  • Correcting spelling and clarity. A clear message without mistakes helps, especially if you write in a language that is not your own.
  • Translating and understanding nuance. If you meet someone who speaks another language, it helps to translate and to understand idioms. Our guide to Spanish phrases and WhatsApp complements it.
  • Planning a date. Ask for three plans based on the weather, the budget and the city, with times and a plan B. 39% of young Tinder users use it for date ideas, according to the 2025 report.
  • Rehearsing a difficult conversation. Practice how to say you are not interested, how to suggest a slower pace or how to answer clearly before saying it in person. On saying what you are looking for, see our first-date advice.
  • Choosing between photos. Ask for an opinion on which photo looks most natural, without changing your face or your body.

With any of these uses, the rule is the same: AI proposes, you decide, and what gets sent should sound like something you would say.

AI works better as a drafting partner than as a ghostwriter.

03Uses that cost you or can cause harm

Some uses show sooner or later and can also affect other people.

  • Letting AI converse for you. If all your messages are written by a tool, the other person is getting to know the tool, not you. The first call or the first date will reveal it.
  • Retouched or generated photos that do not represent you. Changing your apparent age, body or surroundings is deceiving. A frequent complaint about the apps, according to the psychologist Mica Mendelevich in Infobae (13 March 2026), is not safety but lies about age, height and interests.
  • Pretending to be someone else or to have another profession. It is the start of a fraud, even if it begins as a game.
  • Manipulative messages or emotional pressure. Asking AI to draft a message to convince someone after a "no" is not communication, it is pressure. See our advice on consent.
  • Using it to investigate or monitor someone without permission. Searching for or cross-referencing another person's personal data can be invasive.

A simple test before sending a text written with AI help: would I say it like this, in person, to this person? If the answer is no, rewrite it.

04How to stay authentic while using AI

Authenticity is not lost by using a tool, but by not reviewing what it produces. These practices help.

  • Give it your own material. A prompt such as "Write a three-sentence bio for a dating profile. I am 45, I like walking, cooking and road trips, and I am looking for a calm, sincere relationship. Avoid clichés and sound natural" produces a better draft than "write my bio".
  • Ask for several versions and mix them. Take a sentence from each and add your own. The result sounds more like you.
  • Remove the clichés. If the text says "passionate about life" or "looking for someone to make me laugh", ask yourself whether it is true and say it with a real example.
  • Keep your own pace. Reply when you can and in your own words; a shorter, more human message often works better than a long, polished one.
  • Mix channels. A voice note or a short call adds something a polished text does not. According to Expansión (13 February 2026), Hinge's Logan Ury notes that 35% of Gen Z globally want more voice notes. If you use voice notes, keep in mind that voices can also be cloned today; read our guide to AI romance scams.
  • Say who you are from the first date. If you used help for the profile, there is nothing to hide: "I got help organizing the text, but everything is true".

For first messages, see our first-date guide and the one on how to start meeting people after 40.

05Privacy and consent when using AI

An AI tool is a company's service, and what you write in it may be stored or used according to its terms.

  • Do not paste another person's private data. Intimate conversations, photos, phone numbers or work information of the person you are meeting are not yours to share with an outside service without their consent.
  • Check what your tool stores. Read the privacy policy and the options for history or for using your data to train models, and turn them off if you do not want them stored. Terms change, so confirm in the tool itself.
  • Do not share your own sensitive data. Address, identity documents, banking details or passwords do not go into an AI chat or into a conversation with a date.
  • Careful with screenshots. If you ask for help with a conversation, remove names, numbers and details that identify the other person.
  • Mind what you upload. A photo of your face in an AI tool is biometric data in the hands of a third party; think about whether you need to upload it.

All of this also applies to the AI built into dating apps: read what they do with your messages and photos.

06How to tell whether you are chatting with a bot or with someone using AI

AI is also on the other side, sometimes with good intentions and sometimes to deceive. No sign is definitive, but several together deserve attention.

  • Perfect answers, too fast and at any hour. Long, polished messages without mistakes within seconds, by day and in the early hours, with no tiredness or pauses.
  • Generic answers. Compliments that could be aimed at anyone, questions that ignore what you said earlier, or phrases that repeat your words without adding anything.
  • Avoiding specifics. No anecdotes with details, no real places or routines, and a change of subject when you ask for something verifiable.
  • Insisting on switching platforms, sending you a link or asking for money. This is the most important sign; according to the Mexico City Cyber Police alerts, it repeats across romance frauds.
  • Avoiding voice or meeting. A constant excuse not to talk, or audio that sounds flat, is a reason to slow down.

A simple way to test: ask a specific question that only someone in your situation could answer, or suggest a short call without warning. For more detail on verifying someone, read our guide to AI romance scams and the one on dating through apps and WhatsApp.

07Carolina: an AI assistant that tells you she is one

If you prefer a tool designed for talking about dating, Carolina is the virtual assistant of Premium Dating Mexico. She is an artificial intelligence, not a person, and she says so from the first message and every time you ask. She can help you write or soften a first message, plan a date, rehearse how to say something difficult and give general dating and safety advice. She does not arrange dates, does not give anyone's contact details, does not receive payments and does not ask for banking details or documents; nor does she replace the people in your life or a professional. Conversations are stored and the team may review them, and messages are processed with OpenAI; everything is explained in the Privacy Notice and in Meet Carolina.

If what you want is to meet someone with human support, Premium Dating Mexico is a private introduction service mediated by the administrator; learn more on the home page and in how a private matchmaking service works. The tools, policies and figures cited change: confirm the details with official sources and with each service before deciding.

Frequently asked questions

Is it wrong to use ChatGPT or another AI for my dating profile?

Not necessarily. It is useful for organizing ideas, correcting and proposing drafts. What matters is reviewing the result, removing what is not true and making it sound like you. What is misleading is pretending to an age, a profession or a photo that does not represent you.

How many people use AI for dating in Mexico?

According to the study by The Competitive Intelligence Unit reported by Infobae on 13 February 2026, 2.9% of dating app users use AI tools to improve conversations or profiles, and 31.1% use features built into the apps. The Tinder figure (76%) refers to people aged 18 to 25 in other countries.

Should I tell the other person I used AI?

You do not have to announce it, but you should not hide it if they ask. What matters is that what you say about yourself is true. If AI helped you draft, you can say "I got help organizing the text, but everything is true".

Is it safe to paste a conversation from a date into an AI tool?

It is best to avoid it or clean the data: names, phone numbers, photos and personal details of the other person are not yours to share with an outside service without their consent. Also check what the tool stores and turn off history if you do not want it.

How can I tell whether I am chatting with a bot?

No sign is definitive, but be wary of perfect, generic answers at any hour, of someone who avoids specifics and of someone who insists on switching platforms, sending you a link or asking for money. Try a specific question and suggest a short call without warning.

Can Carolina write my messages for me?

Carolina can help you write or soften a first message and rehearse a conversation, but she is designed to support you, not replace you. She is an AI, can make mistakes and does not know who is in the Premium Dating Mexico catalog.
