Upscale nightlife in Monterrey: where to go out and how to approach with respect

Monterrey has nightlife for every taste, from bars where you can talk to clubs with DJs. This guide brings together places that specialist guides mention in San Pedro, the Centro and Barrio Antiguo, and explains how to choose the format that suits what you are looking for. We do not know who goes to each place or promise an atmosphere, so choose by format and confirm hours, dress codes and reservations with each venue.

In short

  • Choose by format: cocktail bars for talking, bars with live music or DJs, and clubs for dancing.
  • In San Pedro, look at Maverick, Pinto Bar, Señora Tanaka, Hatxa and Bestia; in the Centro, Zig Zag and Vini The Bar; in Barrio Antiguo, Coss.
  • Hotel bars such as those at Habita MTY, Live Aqua or the Presidente InterContinental’s Epicentro are a calmer option.
  • Approach with respect: ask, accept a “no” the first time, do not pressure, and let everyone look after their own drink.

01Choose the format first

  • For talking. Cocktail bars with music at a volume that lets you speak, and hotel bars.
  • For listening to music. Bars with jazz, blues or guest DJ sets, where the music is part of the plan.
  • For dancing. Clubs with DJs, louder and more crowded, where talking is harder.

For a first date, the talking format is better, because it lets you get to know the person. See our restaurants for a first date in Monterrey for a dinner before the drink.

A good night starts with picking the place that fits what you are looking for.

02San Pedro Garza García: cocktails and music

San Pedro holds several of the bars food guides mention most.

  • Maverick. Signature cocktails and reinterpreted classics with music at its core: guest DJ vinyl sets, plus jazz and Sunday blues, according to Food and Pleasure.
  • Pinto Bar. A relaxed bar with warm lighting, sake and mezcal drinks and simple bar food; the guide calls it somewhat hidden.
  • Señora Tanaka. A wide cocktail list and a kitchen with Japanese influence; it has branches in Mexico City and Guadalajara.
  • Hatxa. A bar-restaurant described as one of the busiest in the area, with original cocktails and Mexican and Spanish cuisine.
  • Bestia. In the Arboleda mall: Argentine cuisine, cocktails, signature margaritas and an extensive wine cellar.

03Centro and Barrio Antiguo: speakeasies and terraces

  • Zig Zag. In the Centro: classic and original cocktails, with an espresso martini among the most mentioned.
  • Vini The Bar. A speakeasy in the Centro, with creative cocktails and rooms each decorated differently.
  • Coss. In Barrio Antiguo, on a second floor, with contemporary cocktails and sunset views; the guide recommends booking on weekends.

Barrio Antiguo is an area with lots of nightlife, and late at night it is wise to stay on streets with activity and head home by ride-hailing app. For more on looking after yourself at night, read our guide to scams and risks in Monterrey nightlife.

04For dancing: clubs and DJ venues

A guide to Monterrey clubs mentions the following places, without detailing entry or dress rules; confirm both before you go.

  • Six San Pedro and Toto San Pedro. Both in Valle del Campestre; the first is described as a party hub with national and international DJs, and the second stands out for its décor and its DJs.
  • Strana. In Del Valle, with guest DJs and a chandelier over the dance floor; it started in Guadalajara.
  • Pepper Kitchen Bar & Rooftop. Kitchen, bar and rooftop with views over Monterrey, live DJ sets and a lively atmosphere on weekends.

In crowded venues, look after your belongings and your drink, and decide in advance how you will get home.

05Hotel bars: the calmer option

  • Habita MTY. Its top-floor bar has two infinity pools and 360° views of the Sierra Madre.
  • Live Aqua. The Nyte bar is designed for sunset, in the financial district.
  • Epicentro, at the Presidente InterContinental. A tequila and mezcal bar in a hotel inaugurated in November 2025.
  • JW Marriott. A lobby bar with signature cocktails.

These are places where it is easier to talk and to leave whenever you like. For more ideas, see hotel bars and rooftops in Monterrey.

06How to approach with respect

Meeting someone at a bar is normal, but how you do it matters as much as where. These ideas are common sense and basic respect.

  • Start with a conversation, not a rehearsed line. Introduce yourself and ask with real interest.
  • Read the response. If the other person answers in one word, looks elsewhere or moves away, the conversation is over.
  • Accept a “no” the first time, kindly and without insisting.
  • Do not touch without permission, and do not buy a drink as a way of obliging anyone.
  • Everyone looks after their own drink. Order yours directly from staff and do not offer one that someone has not seen prepared.
  • No photos of anyone without their consent.

The government of Nuevo León runs Protocolo EVA, a program in which bars, restaurants, hotels and other businesses train their staff to help women in risky situations; you can read about it on the state government’s site. For a path with more context, read how to meet people in Monterrey.

Premium Dating Mexico is a private introduction service mediated by the administrator: it is free for women, nobody pays for a meeting, identities are verified and photos are protected. Learn more on the Monterrey page.

Venues change, so confirm hours, reservations and policies with each venue before you go. We have no relationship with any of the places mentioned, and the listings are not paid. The information comes from food and nightlife guides to Monterrey and from the venues’ own pages.
