November long weekend: romantic escapes from Guadalajara

Guadalajara is close to several very different getaways: a lake, a magical tequila town, a hacienda on a ravine and cabins in the mountains. The 2026 Revolution Day long weekend runs from Saturday 14 to Monday 16 November and overlaps with Buen Fin, Friday 13 to Tuesday 17. This guide gathers options with a Saturday-to-Monday rhythm and what to book now. It is written for adults who already know each other and want to plan something together: a getaway is not a way to start.

In short

  • The long weekend is Saturday 14 to Monday 16 November 2026; the Federal Labor Law sets the 20 November rest day on the third Monday of the month, every year.
  • Chapala is about 35 minutes away, Tequila an hour and Mazamitla 2 to 2.5 hours, according to the sources cited.
  • Without leaving the city, Tlaquepaque and the historic centre offer hotels with character.
  • A getaway is for adults who already know each other and agree on it calmly; for a first date, start in a public place.

01The 2026 long weekend and what to expect

The Federal Labor Law sets the third Monday of November as the mandatory rest day for 20 November (Uno TV, 20 September 2026). In 2026 it is Monday 16, so the long weekend runs from Saturday 14 to Monday 16 (N+). Buen Fin runs Friday 13 to Tuesday 17, according to Uno TV.

  • More movement. For the 2025 long weekend, Sectur projected hotel occupancy above 65% in destinations such as Guadalajara (Publimetro, 6 November 2025): a projection, not a final figure.
  • Towns and roads. Nearby magical towns fill up on long weekends; leave early and avoid the busiest hours.
  • Promotions. Last year Sectur and Profeco launched “La Gran Espada: El Buen Fin del Turismo”. Check whether something similar runs and book through official channels.

Because the rule is “the third Monday”, the guide works every year: only the dates change.

02Before you suggest the getaway

A trip together is a big step. It works best when you already know each other, feel comfortable and both want the plan, with her free to say no or suggest something else.

  • Talk through the practical side. Nights, room, transport and who pays for what, without assuming anything. Separate rooms are valid.
  • A day before a night. Chapala or Tequila can be done in a day trip.
  • Freedom to leave. Her being able to head home whenever she likes is part of trust.
  • Discretion. Do not post photos of her or the place without her permission.

If you have not met in person yet, start with a first date: see our tips for a first date and the Guadalajara restaurants.

03Up to an hour: Chapala, Tequila and San Cristóbal

These are the most practical options: you arrive quickly and the time goes to strolling.

  • Chapala. About 35 minutes by car: lakeside walks at sunset, local food and colourful streets. For a night away, it pairs well with a Guadalajara hotel.
  • Tequila. A magical town with the National Tequila Museum and the Azules waterfall, an hour from Guadalajara. Casa Salles is a 25-room boutique hotel next to a distillery, with tours and tastings (reviewed in November 2021: confirm its current services); Solar de las Ánimas, according to Latin Flyer, has a rooftop sky bar with a jacuzzi.
  • San Cristóbal, Jalisco. The boutique hotel Defranca, a 17th-century hacienda on the edge of a ravine, with a spa and access to the tequila route, according to Food & Pleasure.

04Into the mountains: Mazamitla

Mazamitla is a cool-climate magical town, 125 to 135 km from Guadalajara and 2 to 2.5 hours by car (Eje Central, 2 August 2026). On a long weekend, allow more time.

  • Cabins. Some have a jacuzzi or fireplace, according to that source; ask about heating, because it gets cold at night in the mountains.
  • What to do. The El Salto waterfall, which you can reach on foot or on horseback; the Andador Hidalgo; artisanal ponche and the broth called El Bote.
  • The drive. Leave early and come back in daylight.

Confirm hours and conditions at each place before you go.

05Without leaving the city: Tlaquepaque and the centre

A pause in the city counts too: you skip the highway and the hotel becomes the plan.

  • Tlaquepaque. Pedestrian streets, galleries and ceramics; La Villa del Ensueño and Casa del Retiro, both quiet.
  • Historic centre. Casa Pedro Loza (an 1848 mansion with eight rooms and a sky lounge), Hotel Morales and Hotel de Mendoza, across from the Degollado Theatre.
  • An unusual stay. Quinta Real (Colonia Arcos), with rooms in the former boxes of a bullring.
  • Lafayette and Chapultepec. Hotel Demetria, with minimalist design, and Casa Fayette, with a bar.

For dinner, Alcalde holds one Michelin Star in the 2026 Michelin Guide; more in the guide to romantic hotels in Guadalajara.

06A realistic Saturday-to-Monday rhythm and how to book

  • Saturday. Leave early, have lunch without rushing and book dinner.
  • Sunday. The main plan: the distillery, the lakeside, the waterfall or an afternoon in Tlaquepaque.
  • Monday. Leave after breakfast and avoid the afternoon return.
  • Bookings. Early, with flexible cancellation and through official channels; ask about parking, ID, visitors and whether it is adults-only.
