Date services in Los Cabos: arrive well and avoid the traps

Los Cabos is one of Mexico's best-known destinations for couples' getaways, and also one that asks for care with transport and airport sales pitches. This guide gathers what named, dated sources say: a local outlet on transfers and safety, a transport guide and two posts from the Los Cabos tourism board with ideas for couples. The venues are sourced examples, not paid recommendations. Confirm everything before you book.

In short

  • The Cabo Sun (16 March 2026) says Uber cannot pick up at Los Cabos airport and recommends pre-booking a private transfer; sources differ on Uber's legal status in the area.
  • Taxis do not use meters: you agree the price before getting in and most accept only cash, according to Thoroughly Travel.
  • The Los Cabos tourism board lists as examples spas, beach picnics, dinners with a view and sunset sailings (posts of February 2023 and June 2025).
  • Baja California Sur is at Level 2 from the State Department (advisory of 6 September 2024); The Cabo Sun warns about scams, pushy sales and street ATMs.

01Leaving Los Cabos airport

The sources agree on the essentials, although each is the voice of a single outlet and the rules change; confirm with the airport or your provider before you travel.

  • Uber. The Cabo Sun (16 March 2026) says Uber cannot pick up at the airport and recommends pre-booking a private transfer; at resorts you may need to walk to the public road to catch a ride. In another article (12 January 2026) it adds that airports are federal zones that require federal plates, that the National Guard patrols the terminals and that there are fines; that article describes two workarounds: requesting the ride from the departures level (unauthorised, and the driver may cancel) or walking about 10 to 15 minutes to an OXXO across the highway. It is a single outlet's account.
  • Official taxi. Thoroughly Travel says to go to the authorised booth, give your destination and get a slip with the taxi number and the estimated fare.
  • Private or shared transfer. The private one serves only your group; the shared one is cheaper but waits for other passengers and makes stops. The Cabo Sun states that both have federal plates that allow kerbside pickup.
  • Bus. Thoroughly Travel mentions the Ruta del Desierto, which leaves from outside Terminal 1.

Ignore the uniformed sellers in the airport area that The Cabo Sun calls the "Shark Tank" and anyone offering timeshare "VIP memberships". A firm, polite no is usually enough.

In Los Cabos the transfer is sorted before you land: book it and confirm who you are leaving with.

02Getting around: taxis, Uber and the night route

Thoroughly Travel (article with no update date) describes how to get around.

  • Taxis. In Cabo San Lucas they are typically green or white minivans, and in San José del Cabo red and yellow. They have no meters, so you agree the price before getting in; most do not accept cards. Some Spanish helps because many drivers have limited English.
  • Uber. The article says Uber's legal status in Los Cabos is contested and that it is unclear whether a law exists or it is a rumour; Uber does operate and the author used it without problems. Even so, because of reported clashes between Uber and taxi drivers at the airport, it advises using an official taxi there.
  • Tips. Download offline maps and a translation app, use only official bus stops and avoid walking alone at night; in Cabo San Lucas, stay in the main tourist areas after dark.

For the return from a dinner, book transport ahead or ask the restaurant or hotel to call a trusted taxi, rather than looking for one on the street.

03Flowers and gestures in Los Cabos

We did not find a reliable, current list of florists that deliver to Los Cabos hotels and resorts, so we do not name any. The sources we consulted describe beach picnics and setups, not florists.

  • Ask the concierge whether it can prepare flowers, a bottle or a gesture at the table or in the room, and whether it accepts deliveries from outside suppliers.
  • Ask for a written description of the arrangement and confirm name, place and time before paying.
  • Privacy. Do not send anything to the hotel of someone you do not know well yet; for a first date, a small gift handed over in person is usually better.

If the gesture is part of a beach dinner, coordinate with the restaurant or hotel instead of hiring a third party who arrives unannounced.

04Dinners, sunsets and plans for two

The Los Cabos tourism board published two posts with ideas for couples, on 1 February 2023 and 11 June 2025. They are sourced examples, not paid recommendations; confirm they are still current.

  • Sunset Monalisa. An open-air cliffside restaurant overlooking the bay; the 2023 post calls it the hardest reservation to get in Los Cabos.
  • El Farallón (Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal), with seafood and a large Champagne list, according to the 2023 post.
  • San José del Cabo. The 2025 post suggests a candlelit dinner at Mi Cocina or Don Sánchez after a walk through the historic district.
  • Beach picnics. The 2023 post mentions Nobu Los Cabos's private picnics with a bonfire and the chef's menu on the beach at Chileno Bay Resort; the 2025 post mentions cabanas at One&Only Palmilla, Esperanza and Playa Grande Beach Resort & Grand Spa.
  • Sunset sailing. All Ways Cabo Boats runs sunset sails around the bay; the posts also mention private charters with Cabo Adventures and Cabo Sails.

For a first date, a daytime meal or walk in a public place is usually lighter than a private dinner or a sailing trip. To choose where to sleep, see the guide to discreet hotels in Los Cabos. The US National Hurricane Center states that the eastern Pacific hurricane season runs from 15 May to 30 November; if you travel then, check the forecast.

05Spa, grooming and precautions

The tourism board's 2023 post highlights One&Only Spa Palmilla, with private villas in tropical gardens, massage pavilions and outdoor rain showers. The 2025 post mentions couples' treatments, such as a sea-salt scrub or an aromatherapy massage, without naming a spa. Confirm the service is still offered and book ahead.

The Cabo Sun (16 March 2026) says physical danger is low and that the main complaints are scams and harassment, such as inflated taxi fares and pushy beach vendors. Among its tips: avoid street ATMs, which may have skimmers, and withdraw cash at bank branches or large grocery stores; check bills for unrequested tips; watch your drink at bars; avoid unlit areas, such as parts of Medano Beach; and check the beach flag (green, yellow, red or black) before swimming.

The State Department (advisory of 6 September 2024; checked 27 October 2026) puts Baja California Sur at Level 2, "Exercise Increased Caution", and says criminal activity and violence may occur throughout the state. There are no travel restrictions for its staff. Check travel.state.gov before you travel.

  • Tell someone you trust where you will be and when you plan to return.
  • Stay with your group and avoid unlit areas when you finish.
  • If you drink, use a driver or an official taxi, not a vehicle that approaches you.

06A getaway as a couple, or meeting someone with discretion

Los Cabos works well for a couples' getaway if transport and reservations are sorted in advance. If you are travelling alone and do not know anyone yet, start with a public place in daylight, with your own transport, and decide on the spot whether to continue.
