Private driver and safe rides for dates in Monterrey: arriving and getting home calmly

Transport decides how a date ends: arriving on time, not depending on anyone and getting home calmly. This guide summarizes what the press and specialist sites publish about Monterrey’s airport, ride-hailing apps, authorized taxis and private drivers, and adds safety guidelines that work in any city. App access to the airport changed in 2026 and may change again, so confirm the pickup point in the app on the day of your trip.

In short

  • According to Aeropuertos del Mundo (rates updated October 15, 2026), the airport is about 24 km from downtown, with a 30 to 50 minute drive depending on traffic; authorized taxis are prepaid at arrivals counters.
  • On June 1, 2026, the Nuevo León Tourism Secretariat announced a bay for Uber and DiDi about 250 meters from Terminal C; it was not clear whether it would be permanent and on June 5 El CEO reported that drivers were complaining of fines.
  • Before boarding, confirm the car, the plate and the driver, share your trip with someone you trust and do not let someone who has been drinking travel home alone.
  • A private driver makes sense for meeting someone at the airport or for a long night, but should be hired through an identifiable company with written confirmation.

01From the airport to San Pedro and downtown

Monterrey International Airport has several ways out, and the most convenient depends on whether you arrive alone, with luggage and at what time.

  • Distance. Aeropuertos del Mundo (a page with rates updated October 15, 2026) estimates about 24 km to downtown and 30 to 50 minutes, depending on traffic and destination. It gives no specific time for San Pedro Garza García.
  • Authorized taxis. The same page states that only federal taxis authorized by the airport should be used, that they run 24 hours and are prepaid at counters in Terminals A, B and C.
  • Shared vans. According to that page, several operators have fixed stops downtown, in San Pedro (Hotel Camino Real) and in the south, with tickets sold at machines in Terminal A.
  • Public transport. An urban bus links the terminals with Y Griega station on Metrorrey Line 1, according to the same source. Check the official Metrorrey site for hours.
  • Private transfer. You can book a driver in advance, who waits for you with a sign bearing your name after you collect your luggage.

Confirm conditions with the airport or the company: rates and pickup points change.

A calm arrival starts with knowing where whoever picks you up will find you.

02Uber and DiDi: what changed in 2026

Apps are the most used option in the city, but the airport has been an area of changing rules.

  • Until 2024. Posta (September 13, 2024) reported that Uber and DiDi could not pick up passengers in the airport’s boarding zones, which were reserved for concessioned taxis, and that travelers had to go to areas outside the immediate perimeter, such as the Miguel Alemán highway.
  • June 2026. Publimetro (June 1, 2026) and El Mañana (June 1, 2026) reported the announcement by Nuevo León’s Tourism Secretariat: a bay about 250 meters from Terminal C, with internal transfers from Terminals A and B and the aim of making it permanent. According to El Mañana, users would receive directions in the app.
  • Doubts. El CEO (June 5, 2026) reported that Uber and DiDi drivers complained of fines for operating near the airport and that the Copla collective said it had not been notified of the authorization. Given that, the prudent course is to confirm the pickup point in the app on the day of your trip.

Our sources are press articles from June 2026 and we do not know whether the arrangement is still the same: do not assume it is.

03When a private driver makes sense

A private driver makes sense when you want to receive someone calmly, when the night will be long or when you prefer not to depend on an app. It is not necessary for a simple first date.

  • What to verify. An identifiable company (name, phone, email and, if possible, proof that it is a formal service), the vehicle type, the plate and the driver’s name, sent in writing before the service.
  • The conditions. Ask in writing for the pickup point, the time, the waiting time included and the cancellation policy. Do not pay in advance to someone you cannot identify.
  • The airport. Aeropuertos del Mundo mentions that the driver waits for you with a sign bearing your name; agree by message where they will find you and how you will recognize them.
  • Privacy. Decide with the driver what information they can see: a hotel address is usually enough, and they do not need to know more.

We did not find a reliable, recent source that lets us recommend a specific chauffeur company in Monterrey, so here we only give criteria.

04Safety when getting into a ride-hail car or taxi

Apps have safety tools, but they only help if you turn them on before you get in.

  • Verify the car. El Imparcial (July 13, 2024) recommends confirming the car, plate and driver before boarding and getting in at the requested pickup point.
  • Share your trip. The same article notes that DiDi lets you share the trip in real time with up to 5 people and that Uber offers “Share my trip.”
  • PIN verification. On February 12, 2020, Uber announced in Mexico a four-digit PIN that the rider gives the driver to start the trip; it is turned on in Settings, under “Verify trips.”
  • Good practice. El Imparcial advises sitting in the back seat on the side opposite the driver, not sharing personal details and avoiding setting home or work as the destination. It suggests avoiding taxis with “en trámite” plates.
  • The emergency button. The article recommends using it if you feel at risk.

No tool replaces your judgment: if something does not add up, do not get in.

05Getting home at night and what to agree beforehand

The ride home is the part that is most improvised and the one that most benefits from being settled beforehand.

  • Who drives. If either of you will be drinking, agree beforehand how each person gets home. An El Imparcial article advises against letting someone who has been drinking travel home alone.
  • Your location. Share your live location with someone you trust from the moment you leave and let them know when you arrive.
  • Each in their own transport. On a first or second date, each person can arrive and leave on their own; it is a prudent option, and offering a lift is not an obligation.
  • Metro and buses. Metrorrey has defined hours; check the official site at nl.gob.mx/metrorrey before counting on it for a late return.

A clear plan for getting home is part of a good date, not a sign of distrust.

06A plan as a couple, or meeting someone with discretion

Moving around with clarity makes a date more relaxed for both people: nobody worries about how to get home.

If you do not yet have someone to share a plan with, a daytime first meeting in a public place is a natural way to begin.

Premium Dating Mexico is a private introduction service mediated by the administrator: it is free for women, nobody pays for a meeting, identities are verified and photos are protected. Learn more on the home page or the Monterrey page.

Businesses, hours and conditions change, so confirm availability, reservations and policies before you go. We have no commercial relationship with any of the businesses mentioned: they are examples taken from public sources and are not sponsored.

Is it worth hiring a private driver for a date?

For a simple first date it is not necessary. It makes sense for meeting someone at the airport or on a long night, always through an identifiable company with written confirmation. We do not recommend specific companies here because we did not find a reliable, current source.
