Discreet luxury hotels in La Paz and Todos Santos: intimate scale and good service
In La Paz and Todos Santos, discretion depends on size and location more than on category: an eight-suite hotel downtown offers something very different from a resort on a marina or a house by the sea at Punta Lobos. This guide sorts the options in Baja California Sur by area, gathers hotels notable for their small size or for admitting only adults, and suggests questions so that privacy is something agreed and not assumed. It is not about hiding from anyone, but about protecting your time and your data.
In short
- In La Paz, intimate scale is in boutique hotels: The Orchid House (8 suites), República Pagana (12 rooms) and Hotel Catedral (15), according to The Better Beyond.
- Hotel San Cristóbal, at Punta Lobos near Todos Santos, has 32 rooms and is adults-only, according to Fora.
- Todos Santos is a little over an hour from La Paz and from Los Cabos airport, according to Live Like It’s the Weekend.
- Ask in writing for the age rule, the data policy and how visitors and communications are handled before you book.
01What discretion means in a hotel
A discreet hotel is, first of all, one where you know what to expect. These are the variables that weigh most.
- Size. Few rooms mean fewer strangers in the corridors and at the pool.
- Entrance and location. A private entrance, a quiet street or a beach of its own reduce crossings with other guests.
- Service. Staff who handle your arrival, breakfast and requests without asking for more data than needed.
- Age rules. An adults-only hotel changes the feel of the pool and the restaurant.

Discretion is not a secret luxury: it is a clear agreement about what is shared and with whom.
02La Paz: small boutiques downtown
According to The Better Beyond (updated 5 September 2026) and booking platforms, these are the small-scale options. Confirm details with each hotel.
- The Orchid House. Eight suites with an ocean-view pool and a restaurant. It is the smallest on the list.
- República Pagana. Twelve rooms and a rooftop bar and restaurant; some guests report noise. A booking platform lists it as adults-only: confirm it.
- Hotel Catedral La Paz. Fifteen rooms and suites with a rooftop pool.
- Casa 1880. Listed as adults-only on Expedia and Hotels.com, about 0.7 km from the Malecón, with an outdoor pool and a bistro; we could not find the room count.
If privacy is the goal, ask which rooms are far from the rooftop and the bar.
03Further apart: casitas and the marina
For those who prefer a hotel away from downtown, there are options by the sea.
- Mantarraya Outpost. Six eco-style casitas, according to The Better Beyond.
- CostaBaja. A resort on a marina, with 115 rooms according to its website. It is larger, so privacy depends on the room and the area of the resort.
In both cases confirm the transfer: La Paz airport is about 11 km from the city, around 20 minutes.
04Todos Santos: small hotels between desert and sea
Todos Santos is a little over an hour from La Paz and from Los Cabos airport, according to Live Like It’s the Weekend (5 May 2026). A Fora advisor recommends renting a car and driving by day, because there are few streetlights.
- Hotel San Cristóbal. On the Punta Lobos fishing beach, with 32 rooms and adults-only, according to Fora. Its restaurant Benno serves Mexican-Mediterranean food, according to Afar (2020).
- Villa Santa Cruz. Hacienda style with a tropical garden and The Green Room bar, which requires a reservation, according to Fora.
- Paradero Todos Santos. A boutique in the center of town, according to Fora.
- Todos Santos Boutique Hotel. Ten rooms with hand-painted murals, according to Fora.
Fora and Afar are travel guides: we have not verified their hotel profiles. Confirm rooms, age rules and rates with each hotel.
05Useful questions before you book
Discretion is agreed; it is not assumed. These questions help.

- Visitors. Are guests allowed in the room or in common areas? Are there set hours?
- Communications. Through which channel are the booking, the transfer and requests confirmed?
- Transfer. Is there a private airport transfer or do you need to hire a taxi?
Tourist fee: MX$488 per person since 1 January 2026 for international visitors over 12 staying more than 24 hours, according to Eastern Progress (13 January 2026). Confirm the amount.
