Valentine’s Day in Mexico City: how to plan Sunday, 14 February 2027
In Mexico, Valentine’s Day is known as the Día del Amor y la Amistad, and in 2027 it falls on a Sunday, which changes how you plan it. This guide helps you organize the date in Mexico City whether you have a partner, have just started getting to know someone or would rather spend the day with your own people at your own pace: when to book, which plan fits each stage, what to say, what to give and how to protect your money from last-minute offers.
In short
- 14 February 2027 is a Sunday: decide early, book through official channels, confirm the day before and keep a plan B in the same area.
- There is a plan for every stage: a quiet dinner, a drink with a view, a daytime stroll or, only between people who already know each other and agree to it, a night in a hotel.
- On a first or second date, keep it light: daytime, a public place, an easy exit and no “grand gesture”.
- Be wary of deposits to personal accounts, “guaranteed tables” and gifts at odd discounts; and if you are spending it alone, there are low-pressure plans.
01When to book and what changes because it is a Sunday
14 February 2027 falls on a Sunday. In Mexico the day is called the Día del Amor y la Amistad (Day of Love and Friendship), so many people also celebrate it with friends and family, and popular places in the city tend to be in high demand. There is no magic number of days: the useful thing is to decide early and not leave the booking for the last week.
- Sunday, Saturday or Friday. Some people celebrate on Saturday the 13th or earlier, others prefer a long lunch on the Sunday itself. Ask the other person what they would like instead of deciding for both of you.
- Book through official channels. Use the venue’s website, its phone number or a well-known booking platform, and confirm the day before. Ask whether there is a special menu or a card guarantee and what the cancellation policy is.
- Keep a plan B nearby. If the waiting list is long, a second option in the same area saves you from improvising in a hurry.
- Think about the way home. There is likely to be more traffic and more people than usual in the fashionable areas; choose a place you can both reach comfortably and from which each of you can get home on your own.
Hours, menus and policies change around this date: confirm hours, menus and prices directly with each venue before deciding.
Deciding early and being clear matters more than any grand plan.
02Plans for every kind of evening
These are places we have already described in other guides; we have no relationship with them and the listings are not paid. Each plan has a fuller guide: read it and confirm everything with the venue.
- A quiet dinner in Polanco. Ticuchi (intimate and dimly lit, Mexican food with an emphasis on vegetables), L’Entrecote (a classic French bistro) and Adonis (Lebanese cooking since 1974) are good for conversation. Quintonil and Pujol, with two Michelin stars in the 2026 guide, are for a very special night and need booking weeks ahead; they are not for a first date. More in restaurants for a first date in Polanco.
- A neighborhood dinner. Belforno (wood-fired pizza overlooking a garden, in Condesa), La Tecla (contemporary Mexican, in Roma) or El Japonez Oasis (teppanyaki tables, in Coyoacán). In Lomas, Issi and Treze. See the guide to Lomas, Condesa, Roma and Coyoacán.
- A drink with a view. La Terraza at Condesa DF, in a 1928 hotel, or the poolside bar at Downtown Mexico in the Centro, around sunset. Bellini, with its 360° view dinner, suits a second or third date better. More in rooftops and hotel bars.
- An intimate bar in Roma. La Vista, Hiya (a wine bar) or Musak (with live jazz in the evening) are good for a drink and a close conversation.
- A daytime plan. A stroll through Coyoacán with a long lunch, Parque México in Condesa or the National Museum of Anthropology in Chapultepec: less pressure and a natural ending.
A night in a hotel is a different plan: only for people who already know each other and have talked about it clearly, and never as a first date. If that is your case, see romantic hotels in Mexico City and always ask about guest policies and cancellation.
03If you are just getting to know each other: keep it light
If it is a first or second date, 14 February can feel like an exam, and it does not have to. A simple plan, in the daytime or early afternoon, with a natural ending works better than a big production. If you have only known each other for a short while, you can also meet a few days before or after and take the weight off the date.
- Daytime is better. A coffee, a lunch or a short walk; it can be extended if you both want and end without explanations if not.
- A public place and an easy exit. Each of you arrives and leaves on your own, and tells a trusted person where you will be. More in the first date in Mexico.
- No “grand gesture”. Huge bouquets, announcements on social media or expensive gifts can make someone you barely know uncomfortable. A small gesture is enough.
- Say simply what you hope for. A line like “I would like to spend a pleasant afternoon with you, no pressure” sets the tone from the start.
- A “no” or a “maybe another day” is respected. To go over how to say yes, no or “slower”, read consent and respect on the first date.

04What to say, what to give and who pays
Invite early and with options: “Sunday the 14th is the Día del Amor y la Amistad. Would you like to have lunch that day or would another day suit you better? I have two ideas.” Offering options shows respect and lets the other person decide without feeling cornered.
- Flowers. A small bouquet or a single flower is a classic gesture. If you can, ask about allergies or preferences, and avoid sending them to a workplace or to a home whose address you have not been given. There are more ideas in flowers and gifts for a date in Mexico City.
- A meaningful detail. A book, a specialty coffee or something tied to what she mentioned says more than something expensive.
- Who pays. Offering to treat her is a common gesture; if she prefers to split the bill, accept gracefully. More in first date in your city: itinerary and pacing.
- Afterwards. A short message that night or the next day, thanking her and saying whether you would like to meet again, and accepting the answer with grace.

05Last-minute bookings and gifts: protect your money
Dates with high demand attract people who want to take advantage of the rush. These are general signs that something is wrong.
- “Guaranteed tables” on social media. Profiles that offer Valentine’s packages with a deposit by transfer to a personal account. Book only through the venue’s official website or phone number.
- Tickets and events. Buy from the official site of the event or venue; if the seller pushes with “last spots”, be wary.
- Gifts and deliveries. Unknown sites with very low discounts, or messages that ask for your card details over WhatsApp.
- People you have just met. Someone who asks for money, gift cards, a deposit or help with a trip before you have met in person is giving you a warning sign, however romantic the message sounds.
Pay by card when you can, keep the receipts and, when in doubt, call the venue. You will find more in seasonal and gift scams and advance-deposit scams.
06If you are spending it alone: ideas without pressure
Spending 14 February without a partner is very common, and in Mexico it is also the Day of Friendship. There is nothing to fix: just decide how you want your Sunday to be.
- With your people. A meal with friends or family, or a call to someone you have not seen in a while.
- A plan for yourself. A good meal at your own pace, a film, the National Museum of Anthropology or a walk through Coyoacán.
- Look after yourself. Sleep well, move, and switch off social media for a while: what other people post shows the best of their day, not their whole life.
- Talk about it. If loneliness weighs on you, talk it over with someone you trust or a health professional.

Frequently asked questions
What day does Valentine’s Day fall on in 2027?
On a Sunday, 14 February 2027. In Mexico it is known as the Día del Amor y la Amistad, and many people also celebrate it with friends and family.
How far ahead should I book?
There is no fixed number. Book as soon as you decide on the plan, especially for a dinner, use official channels and confirm the day before. Ask about special menus, guarantees and cancellations, because each venue has its own rules.
Is a Valentine’s dinner a good idea for a first date?
It can be, but dinner on that date puts a lot of pressure on it. A coffee, a lunch or an early drink in a public place usually feels lighter and leaves an easy exit for both of you.
What if I have no one to go out with?
Plan something you enjoy: a meal with friends, a film, a museum or a walk. It is a common date to be on your own and it does not define your life; if it weighs on you, talk to someone you trust.
How do I avoid a scam when booking or buying a gift?
Book only through the venue’s official website or phone, do not make deposits to personal accounts, buy tickets from official sites and pay by card when you can. If someone you have not met in person asks for money, treat it as a warning sign.
