A genuine cariñosa woman or other motives? How to tell real warmth

Most cariñosa women are that way for the same reason as anyone else: because it is who they are. But affection can also be faked, and anyone meeting people online should know the signs of a romance scam. This guide does not treat anyone as a suspect: it offers clear criteria, based on warnings from authorities, so that affection can be built calmly and safely. It applies equally to men and women, because these scams affect everyone.

In short

  • Real warmth is consistent, respects your pace and does not depend on money or secrets.
  • Authorities agree on the warning signs: asking for money from someone you have not met in person, urgency, sad stories and refusing to meet or video call.
  • The U.S. FTC reported romance-scam losses of $1.14 billion in 2023, with a median loss of $2,000 per person.
  • Verify with a video call, do not send money or bank details and talk to someone you trust.

01What the real warmth of a cariñosa woman looks like

First, keep one thing in mind: the vast majority of people looking for a partner act in good faith. These are the traits of affection that is built well.

  • Consistency. Her manner is similar over weeks, not only at the start.
  • Coherence. What she says and what she does point in the same direction.
  • Respect for your pace. She does not pressure you to move faster than you want.
  • Transparency. She does not need secrets or for you to pull away from your people for the relationship to work.

If these four are present, there are good reasons to move forward with confidence, at your own pace and still looking after yourself.

02Signs of a romance scam

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Cyber Police of Mexico City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) and Condusef describe very similar patterns.

  • A profile that is too perfect or very new. The Cyber Police point to new accounts with little activity and no mutual friends.
  • Very fast affection and promises. Near-instant declarations of love, sometimes called “love bombing”.
  • Excuses not to meet. The FTC mentions pretexts such as being abroad or on an oil rig.
  • Sad stories and urgency. Illness, accidents or legal trouble that require money right now.
  • Promising investments. The FTC and Condusef warn about investment proposals, especially in cryptocurrency, from someone you met online.
  • Requests for intimate photos or data. The Cyber Police warn that they can later be used for extortion.
  • Secrecy or isolation. Asking you not to tell anyone, or to pull away from family and friends.

A single sign may have another explanation. Several together, especially with money involved, are a reason to stop.

03Money and gifts: the clearest line

This is the easiest sign to apply. Both the Cyber Police and Condusef recommend not sending money or investing in businesses suggested by people you have not met in person, and not sharing bank details or identity documents. The FTC notes that scammers often ask for payment in cryptocurrency, gift cards or transfers.

This works in both directions: a healthy relationship is not measured in gifts, and nobody should feel obliged to pay to be loved. Splitting a bill on a date already held in person is normal; the alarm is a request for money from someone you have not yet met or do not know well.

04What the numbers say (and what they do not)

In February 2024 the FTC published that, in 2023, people reported romance-scam losses of $1.14 billion, with a median loss of $2,000 per person. These are U.S. figures and only include people who filed a report.

In the Mexico City Cyber Police and Condusef materials we reviewed, we found no comparable figures for Mexico. We therefore use them only as a reference: they show the problem is real, not a reason to suspect the people you meet.

05How to verify calmly

Verifying is not distrusting: it is a way of looking after yourself that any sincere person understands.

  • Ask for a video call. The Cyber Police recommend it to verify identity.
  • Do a reverse image search. The FTC suggests checking whether the profile photos appear under another name.
  • Protect your accounts. Use strong passwords, two-step verification and set your social media privacy.
  • Talk to someone you trust. A friend or relative often sees what is hard to see from inside.
  • Report anything suspicious. Cyber Police of SSC Mexico City: 55 5242 5100, ext. 5086, [email protected] (confirm they are still current).

If you have already sent money or data, stop sending more, keep the conversations and receipts, tell your bank and file the report.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a cariñosa woman I met online is real?

Ask for a video call, check her photos with a reverse image search, see whether the conversation is consistent and do not accept that someone you have not met in person asks you for money or bank details.

Is it normal for someone I just met to ask me for money?

No. Mexico City’s Cyber Police recommend never sending money to people you only know online, and the FTC lists requests for money from someone you have not met in person as a main warning sign.

What should I do if I think I am being scammed?

Stop sending money or data, keep the conversations and receipts, tell your bank and report to the Cyber Police (SSC Mexico City) or your state authorities.

Do these warnings mean cariñosa women cannot be trusted?

No. Most people looking for a partner are sincere, and scams affect men and women alike. The signs are there to protect you, not to distrust someone who is warm.
